WILLARD HOME
CHRISTMAS VACATION. The practical idealist after whom this educational institution in Russell Street, Palmerston North, is named, might well have inspired the management as it is to-day. . Since 1920, one hundred and sixty-five homeless children have passed through every stage of care and education, from two and a-half years to the day when they were capable of earning their living. They are a credit to their classes in the public school which is situated .near the home where they received their earlier training. The twenty-three pupils are now looking forward to their annual seaside health vacation where they are maintained by voluntary efforts. The standard of health thus attained enables them to resist the incursion of the usual epidemics, and brightens them up for their domestic and educational attainments during the year. Through their selection and Joan from the Citizens’ Lunch Club, they, have a regular interchange of suitable volumes for their interest and education at all ages free of cost, among them being all the volumes of “The Children’s Treasure House.” “Wonders of Animal Life,” and “The Golden Pathway.”
The Willard Home is open to all classes and denominations, and those who are associated with it have reason to he proud of its efficiency. On Thursday, November 21, .the committee will ask every citizen to join them in giving these dear little boys and girls the opportunity of having a good time for their Christmas holidays. Bt. Andrew’s schoolroom, Church Street, will be the headquarters for the campaign day.
