GIRLS’ HIGH SCHOOL.

GARDEN FETE. Although the Parents’ Association of the Girls’ High School was favoured in respect to line weather, for the garden fete at the school grounds to-day, tlio heavy rain of over-night having given was to bring sunshine, a keen easterly breeze swept the grounds, and the stalls, which were placed along the eastern driveway, were rather buffeted by it. In preparation for the day, the ladies of the committee had worked untiringly, and the work stall had an extensive array of articles, this section being under the direction of Mrs B. J. Jacobs. Adjoining stalls contained temptingly arrayed produce and cakes, sweets, soft drinks and ices, while afternoon tea was available to the public indoors. Competitions were conducted and in every respect the effort was worthy of the support accorded it by the public, who were present in quite large numbers. The ladies assisting in the capacity of stallholders were:—Sweets, Mesdames Wollerman, Henderson, and Klee; produce and cakes, Mesdames Abraham, Reid, Heggie, and Lewin; ices Mrs Grant; tea-rooms, Mesdames Radcliffe, Whittaker, Black, Stagpoole, Bong, and Sankey; competitions, Mrs Wollerman; baby show, Mrs J. H. Whyte. The function was officially opened by Mr J. A. Nash, chairman of the Board of Governors of the High Schools, and later a pleasing display of drill and dancing was given on the tennis lawn fronting the school. • Seating accommodation had been provided for patrons and the work of the girls of the school was generally admired, the daintiness of the exercises and the precision with which they were carried out gaining for the performers unstinted applause.
