CHIEF POST OFFICE
ALTERATIONS PLANNED. ENLARGEMENT AUTHORISED. Enlargements to improve the facilities at the Palmerston North Post Office have now been authorised, and the additional accommodation to be provided will filj a long felt want. An intimation that this was contemplated was given by the Chief Postmaster (Mr D. Black) in a letter received at the annual meeting of the Palmerston North Chamber of Commerce this afternoon. The communication read as follows : “In reference to the recent criticism of the accommodation provided for the money-order and savings bank branch of the Chief Post Office at Palmerston North, I am authorised by my head office to say definitely that the accommodation in this branch is. to be enlarged. Plans are being prepared, and when the alterations are completed, it is expected that they will give general satisfaction.”
With the steady growth of Palmerston North and tile expansion of business interests at such an important centre, the need for improved facilities of tho nature mentioned has been badly felt for some time, and there have been periodical complaints of congestion, reference to which has been made by the Chamber of Commerce.
