“LIFE OF CHRIST.”
The sacred film, “The Life of Christ,” which was shown at the Opera House yesterday afternoon and evening, is based on the world-famous Passion Play of Oberammergau, which is presented in that town once every ten years. When the dreaded plague was sweeping Europe, the town of Oberammorgau was blockaded and guarded at every point. No one was allowed to enter or leave. One outsider, however, by dint of careful planning, managed to escape detection and obtain an entry into the town and with him he brought the dreaded pestilence. The disease obtained a swift and sure hold and soon threatened to wipe out the entire population. Completely at a loss to combat the dread disease, the inhabitants found their only hope in prayer, and they promised that if their homes were cleansed of this scourge they would play this Passion Play, depicting the life of Christ, once every ten years for as long as they remained a village. The plague did not claim another victim Horn Oberammergau, and to this day the villagers have remained true to their word.
The fidelity of the acting was amazing and splendid heights were attained in the treatment of this wonderful subject.
