FRENCH PRECAUTIONS.
PREMIER TAKES ACTION,
CHECK ON ARMED GATHERINGS
LONDON, Oct. 22,
The Daily Telegraph’s Paris correspondent says that M. Laval is immediately taking action to check armed gatherings of Fascists and Communists, especially prohibiting “test mobilisations,” in which fleets of aeroplanes and motor-ears will be used. It is expected that a Bill suppressing such gatherings will be made law by decree.
Measures are essential owing to the increasing activities of the Croix de Feu, comprising 300,000 members, which has repeatedly assembled large forces at Paris and other towns, including the occupation of a bridge south of Paris on October 20 for the purpose of testing plans for marching on the capital. Communists recently mobilised 1000 men, using sirens, and marched to a spot wlierfe the Croix de Feu was demonstrating, resulting in a fight, in which 25 were injured.
