FINAL PRODUCTION.
OPERATIC SOCIETY’S “SALLY.” AN OUTSTANDING SUCCESS. The five nights’ season of “Sally,” the 1935 production by the Palmerston North Operatic and Dramatic Society, concluded at the Opera House on Satin day night, when a capacity house greeted the players. Improved by their continuous association of the week, the performers attracted unstinted applause from the audience, who fittingly recognised the clever work of tue members of the cast. Behind the work could be seen the capable direction of the producers, Messrs Harrison Cook and 1. Cousins, to whom no less, than the principals, a large measure of the success of the presentation i^pijue. An innovation was added to the final act when, during the wedding scene at the “Little Church Round the Corner,” streamers and balloons were showered on the stage from the dress circle, while confetti floated through the air. The periormers returned the compliment, the effect being very spectacular —one which will long live in the memory of the audience. At the conclusion of- the number there was another remarkable scene when several hundred Horal tributes, boxes of chocolates, etc., were handed to the lrtriormers. . The opportunity was also taken Uy Mr J. A. Nash, M.P., president of the society, to thank the patrons for their excellent support during the week, the speaker remarking that “full house had been announced for the concluding three nights. Mr Nash also thanked the honoiary members, who were taking a keen interest in the society, they numbered 120 at present and it was hoped that the total would reach 200 by next year. The society was fortunate in having no fewer than 86 active members, assuring no lack of talent when a show was presented, lbe past week had provided one of the greatest successes the society had had, and next year’s production (the piece not having been decided upon) should be equal y * In conclusion, the president voiced appreciation of the efforts of the producers, the orchestra and the players, and said it was obvious that they had enjoyed themselves.
