CAUSE OF TOXAEMIA

DOCTOR’S ANALYSIS. Per Press Association. STRATFORD, Sept. 28. A large attendance of Taranaki doctors at Stratford heard an address by Dr. Bright Bannister on the cause and treatment of toxaemias associated with approaching motherhood. He said the condition was frequently a complication in maternity cases in the Dominion, and expressed the opinion that the large meat consumption of the average New Zealand woman was one of several factors causing an increase in the danger. He emphasised that it was imperative that expectant mothers should meticulously follow the advice of their doctors, especially with regard to dietetic treatment. Dr. Bannister stated that this complication of motherhood was causing more maternal deaths in the Dominion yearly than puerperal sepsis, which was a complication more dreaded by most women. Dr. Bannister added that toxaemia disorder could largely be avoided bv adequate ante-natal care and patients’ obedience.
