(From Our Own Correspondent.) GLEN OROUA, Sept. 23. The monthly meeting of tho School ComI mitteo was held in tho schoolroom last , I week, when there were present: —Messrs W. H. Foster (chairman), J. Herdman (secretary), A. T. Bailey, H. W. Carter, ' F. Webb, and S. G. Parlano (head 1 teacher). Correspondence was received, from i the Foxton District High School Oom- ’ mitteo regarding the advisability of in- - augurating a service to enable children of ■ surrounding districts to attend tho Foxton High School for secondary education. The majority had died following a dry spell with high winds. Tho secretary reported that, the usual capitation grant had been received from tho board. Tho teachers were congratulated on the favourable nature of the inspector’s report following the annual inspection visit. The annual meeting of the Glen Oroua Tennis Club was. held last week, Mr C. G. Beattie presiding over a good attendance. Several apologies for absence were received. The balance-sheet showd a satisfactory balance in hand, and it was not anticipated that oxpenses would be..heavy during the coming season. The following officers were re-elected: —Ptron, Mr J Linklater, ALB.; president, Mr C. G. Beattie: vice-presidents, Alessiw W. (J. Scott, T. Lawlor, J. Boyce and H. J. Lancaster; Mr A. Milne was elected to the vacancy caused by the departure from the district of Mr H. A. Prebble; hon. secretary, Mr S. G. Parlane; hon. auditor, Mr L. H. Ihlc; club captain, Mr R. Brobblo; vice-captain, Mias V. Hobbs; management committee, Messrs R. Prebble, R. Saunders, L. H. lhle, the president, the secretary; (Mrs R. Saunders, ' and Miss Y. Hobbs. It was decided to allow the school children tho use of tho court on Friday

permission was granted for Monday afternoon from 3 p.m. to 4.30 p.m. After a discussion it was decided that there be no junior members. Children who have left school will be allowed to join the club as ordinary mombers with full privileges. Subscriptions are to remain as last year. Teams for matches with outsido clubs are to bo chosen strictly from the ladder. New members are to be placed on tho ladder in order of joining and will be allowed the free right of challenging any other playei within the first month, after which the ordinary ladder rules will operate. Last year’s rule requiring new members to be nominated was adhered to. Non-players may become honorary members on payment of a small fee. Several new members were 1

elected. A “working bee” was set down for the 28th inst., while it was agreed that opening day bo October 12, weather permitting. The secretary was instructed to write to' neighbouring clubs inviting members to bo present. The fortnightly euchre party and dance of the Social Club was hold in the hall on Thursday evening, when the attendance was again good. The ladies’ euchre prizes wore won Dy Mrs W. Bosw'ell and Miss M. Sexton, while Messrs T. Cain and R. Teaz were successful in tho men’s section. A Monte Carlo waltz was Won by Mr C. Donovan and Aliss W. Watkins. Mr B. Flynn was Ai.C. for the danee. The health stamp campaign was explained to the Social Club committee by the local postmaster, Mr L. H. Ilile. Tho committee decided to hold a euchre and dance and devote the profits to this -worthy object. Basketball matches to have been played at Glen Oroua on Saturday between local teams and ladies’ and men’s teams from Rongotea were postponed until next Saturday out of respect to the late Mr N. S. Hogg, of Rongotea, who was well and favourably known to residents of this district. A basketball match between AJanchcs- ‘ ter Street School girls, Feilding, and a combined Glen Oroua-Taikorea schoolgirls’ team is to be held at Glena Oroua on Saturday morning next.
