LADIES’ GOLF. MATCH AGAINST DANNEVIRKE. The Feilding Ladies’ Golf Club sent a team to Dannevirke last week for the return match, a close finish resulting. OROUA ELECTORATE.

AIR J. G. ELIOTT’S POSITION

“Pending the completion of certain business negotiations T am unable to make any definite announcement as to my intentions regarding the Oroua seat,” said Air J. G. Eliott, of Feilding, when approached this morning in regard to his position in the forthcoming general elections. Mr Eliott admitted that he had been pressed to offer his services to the electors, and neither confirmed nor denied that he was standing. He also wished to remain reticent as to the political group which was endeavouring to secure his nomination, but indicated that lie hoped to he able to make a definite statement in the course of a few days. In connection with his candidature, Air Eliott is visiting AVellington tomorrow.

PERSONAL. Air B. Gray, of the staff of ATessrs John Cobbe and Coy., Feilding, has been appointed manager of a New Plymouth firm and leaves to take up his new duties in two weeks’ time. After a visit to AVellington, Airs D. and Aliss M. Bell have returned to Feilding. Feilding visitors to Auckland are Mr and Airs J. H. Thompson. After visiting relations in Feilding, Airs F. Dent has returned to AAVllington. Her many friends will be pleased to learn that the health of Airs A. E. Sandilands, of Kiwitea, has much improved since she was obliged to enter a private hospital in Palmerston North. Her son Howard, who is an inmate of the Feilding private hospital, is also recovering from his severe illness.

In the Royal Academy examinations conducted in AA 7 ellington by Air Lloyd Powell, Aliss Nancy Hausmann, of Feilding, was successful in passing the practical of the L.It.S.AI. for the ’cello. Associated with Aliss Hausmann as accompaniste was Aliss Marjorie Garrett, F.T.C.L. Aliss Hausmann is a pupil of Air Claude Tanner, the well-known New Zealand ’cellist.

NOTES. Particulars of a public debate by Colonel Closey, vice-president of. the Social Credit Afovemcnt, and Mr Richards, a prominent platform debater, are advertised on this page. The debate is to take place at tbo Drill Hall on Thursday at 8 p.m. Air E. Fair, the Deputy-Mayor, will preside. Ladies arc specially invited to be present.

HEALTH STAMP CAMPAIGN. MEETING OF COMAIITTEE. Air T. Collins (Alayor) presided at a meeting held last night for the purpose of furthering the health stamp campaign in Feilding. Also present were Alesdames A. C. AleCorkindalo, Scott, R. Crabtree, P. G. Guy, Purcell, AJessrs J. B. Purcell (postmaster), E. H. Brewer, A. AlcCorkiudale, G. H. Elstono, G. J. Fitzpatrick, C. A. Batt and C. IT. Tate (lion, secretary). The secretary reported that he had interviewed Air J. H. Thompson, of Feilding, who had expressed liis willing- . ness to assist in organising a concert in | aid of the funds, the function to be held in October and on linos similar to the Jubilee concert held recently. Alrsi Scott stated that it had been suggested that the ladies of the committee should conduct a street stall on October 4, flowers, etc., and probably badges to be on sale. Nothing definite had been done in the matter so far. The Mayor asked if a lady would act as convener of the committee required to make the arrangements referred to by Airs Scott, Airs McCorkindale agreeing to act. Speaking to the suggestion regarding the street stall, Airs McCorkindale said she was sure the women’s organisations would support the movement and would secure gifts of flowers, etc.

Mr Batt said the Lvtton Street School would certainly assist by encouraging the children to purchase health stamps and lie considered that all the primary schools could be expected to help in this way. Air Purcell said he would approach the Feilding High School authorities also with a view to their co-operation. Further suggestions made for raising funds included swimming sports, children’s sports and a football match. The .arranging of the latter event was left in the hands of the'Alayor and Air AleCorkindale.
