NEW BUILDING.
COLLEGE STREET SCHOOL,
ELEVEN CLASSROOMS PROVIDED
Construction of the two additions to the infant department of the College Street School, to complete a block_ot accommodation sufficient for some 500 pupils when the old main building is demolished, is now well under way. Most of the structural work is done, leaving the flooring, partitions and interior finishing to receive attention. There are seven new class-rooms, capable of providing for over 320 pupils, being added to the present nucleus of four rooms, and it is anticipated that they will be ready for occupation in November. A long corridor runs the full length of the rear of the building which has a wing at each end. the room? are fitted with windows of the awning type, and are to be provided with the most modern lighting and ventilation facilities as well a central heating installation. It is intended to lay a concrete slab path all round the building, and to give some attention to the quadrangle which has been made by the extensions. Early this afternoon, members of the School Committee met Messrs E. R. Hodge (architect) and G. N. Boulton (secretary) of the Wanganui Education Board to discuss the future layout of the grounds. Meanwhile, no decision lias been made concerning the disposal of the timber from the old building or the use to which the ground on which it stands is to be put. These matters are to be determined by the Minister of Education (Hon. S. G. Smith) after he visits Palmerston North shortly.
