SANDON.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) SANDON, Sept. 20. The annual meeting of the Sandon and District Tennis Chib was bold on Wednesday evening, when Mr A. H. Sanson presided over a large gathering of members. The president mentioned the excellent progress the club hud made, and felt sure that the coming season would see that standard maintained. He spoke highly of the splendid service rendered to the chib by its secretary (Miss L. Gedye). r l he question of topdressing the second court was discussed and it was decided to obtain a quotation for the work before the playing season commenced. It was decided that the official opening day be Labour Day, and that a Yankee tournament be held. Invitations are to be issued to other clubs. The subscriptions for the season are to remain the same as last year. The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted as follows:—Patron, Mr J. Harris; president. Mr A. H. Sanson; vice-president, Messrs It. Nicol, C. C. Lawrence, E. J. Bowater, L. Stake, and Ken Lumsden; club captain, Mr AY. Aiken; vicc-captain, Mr D. S. Hammond; ladies’ captain, Miss L. Lumsden; executive committee, Misses G Sanson and G. Adams, Messrs R. Meyer, M. Sanson, and A. Nesbit; social committee. Mr and Mrs Butler, Airs E. Bowater, Air and Airs C. C. Lawrence, and Messrs R. Nicol and S. L. Kent. The president presented the following report on the chib’s activities: “Generally the season has been a most successful one. The membership was fully up to expectations, being up to the number of the opening year, viz., 70. During the year the club participated in 12 matches and were successful in six of them, which shows the progress the young club has made even in its second season. This year we have catered for all grades of players, and great interest has been shown by all. Big improvements have been made to the courts. In the first year one doubles court was put down and at the commencement of this season we were able to extend our playing area to two double courts. The first year court was also topdressed. Wc commenced the season with a credit balance of £l4 11s 3d and finished with a credit of £3 Os 7d. The expenditure was very hoavv owing to our having to face the expense of £37 10s in laying down the second court and topdressing the one already in existence. Otherwise a very substantial credit balance would have been shown. We would like specially to thank the social committtc, whose activities brought in £ls 17s 9d; Air R. Nicol, who kindly donated the stars and buttons for competition; Air and Alrs Jas. Harris for trophies for junior competition; Air Gedye for making the net; all members who supplied transport; all lady members for supplying afternoon teas; the captain and vicecaptain for the valuable assistance rendered and Air F. W. Tostevin, lion, auditor. We would also like to express our, ap-’ preciation to Air and Mrs N. Butler for supplying music for the dances free of charge, thus saving the club the further expense of procuring an orchestra for the different functions. In conclusion, I would like to mention our secretary (Miss Lily Gedye) who has done excellent work in a tedious job with credit, to herself and the welfare of the club.”
