LAST WEEK’S BUSINESS AND PRICES Easier conditions ruled last week on flic stock and share markets, which were inactive, and, with but few exceptions, showed a weak tendency. Business was on a restricted scale, .and the recorded turnover barely equalled the reduced volume of the last few weeks. Investors moved with caution and, in many eases, weak holders met the market. Government loans showed minor movements, and with a good demand, prices held fairly steady. The 34 per cent., 1939-43 and 1938-43, sold at £lO5, 2s 6cl less being paid in one ease; tho 1939-52 and 1938-52 issues wore traded at £lO9. The 4 per cent., 1940, ranged between £lO2 and £lO2 ss, and the 1946’s sold at £lO7 to £lO7 ss, with £lO6 17s 6d paid for one parcel on Saturday. Tho 4 per cent., 1949, made £llO to £llO 2s 6d, and the 1955’s £ll2 2s 6d to £ll2 10s. Dealings in local body and company debentures wore very few. Bank shares were dull of sale, and slightly irregular. Reserve Bank issues cased on dealings from £6 11s to £6 10s 3d. New Zcalands weakened from 51s Id to 50s 9d, but the D mortgage issue wont at 33s 8d to 33s 9d. After earing lo £32 2s 6d, Now South Wales moved up to £32 15s. Commercial of Australia showed some irregularity at 16s 9d to lbs 6d. amt back to the former price. Other dealings included National of Now Zealand at 72s 6d. National of Australasia at £l3 12s 6d, Australasia at, £ll 11s, Union at £9 Bs, and E.S. and A. at £5 11s 6d and £5 9s Pastoral and financial issues were sparingly traded. Dalgoty and Coy. made £8 10s to £8 11s, Goklsbrough Mort 32s 9d, N.Z. Loan and Mercantile £36, Wright. Stephenson ordinaries 18s 9c], N.Z. Farmers’ Co-op., first, preference, 77s 6d, and Farmers’ Auctioneering, B pref., 21? 9d, 40s paid 27s 6d, and 20s paid 12s. Mortgage Corporation were clone at 6s 3d and 6s 4d. N.Z. Ganaranteo Corporation at 5s 3d. United Building (Christchurch), 235, and United Building (Auckland), 21s. Brewery shares were dull, and New Zealand, after selling at from 52s to 52s 6d, weakened to 51s lOd. Dominion sold at 15s 6d, 16s. 16s 9d and 17s 6d. Tni were done at 42s 6d, and Tooths at 55s and 54s lid. N.Z. Refrigerating were fairly active, the 10s paid selling freely at 9s lOd to 10s, and tho fully paid ttl 20s fid to 20s 9d. Gear Meat were done at 21s 6d, and Canterbury ordinaries at £lO. Kaiapoi Woollen, wjioc dividend was paid last week, sold at 5s to 5s Id for tin; 7s paid, 14s lOd to 15s Id for the 17s paid, and 19s for the preference, Auckland Gas sold at 25s 9d and 25s 30cl. Renown Coal

preference were traded at 2s Bd, and the ordinaries at 9s to 9s 9d. Wcsipotl Coal wore done at 22s 3d to 225, and Tanpiri at 16s 6d. Kauri Timber sold at 22s 6d to 225. Miscellaneous industrial and trading issues were less active, and weakness developed in Broken Hill Proprietary, wl.irh sold at 67s 6d down to 655. Australian Iron and Steel preference sold at 25s 6d to 25s 9d. Dunlop-Pcrdriau went irregularly from 15s to 15s 4d. the passing of the ordinary dividend being anticipated by a fall to 13s lid. G. J. Coles were a shade better at 67s to 67s 9d, and Colonial Sugar firmed to £42 15s. Mount Lyell eased from 19s 6d to 18s lid, and Wilsons Cement from 40s 6d to 40s. Prccera Bread were done at: 40s. Berloi (N.Z.) at. 60s, N.Z. Drug at 83s 6d. and Whitcombe and Tombs at 79s 6d and 795. Woolworths, Ltd... ordinaries. cased further from £5 14s 6d to £5 12s.
