HAWKE’S BAY FINALIST
DID HE PLAY INCOGNITO?, H. IX BRINSdEn AT NAPIER. The unusual procedure of a competitor playing in a golf tournament under an assumed name was revealed when the Hawke’s Bay championship at
Napier reached the final stage (says the Auckland Star). As the result of the semi-final play the finalists were L. A. Reid, 'of Central Hawke’s Bay, and H. D. Brinsden, of Titirangi. The name of the latter had not been mentioned in newspaper reports during the tournament, and it transpired that when lie qualified his name was posted as “T. Wright.” Brinsden’s qualifying rounds, also in the name of “Wright,” were 78 and 81, giving him a tally of 159, four strokes behind the leaders, H. S. Budd and H. G. Davies, 155. Brinsden won the tournament.
