WILSON CUP. WANGANUI RETAIN TROPHY. MANAWATU’S CHALLENGE FAILS. A team front the Manawatu Golf Club journeyed to the Belmont links at the week-end to present a challenge to the Wanganui Club for the Wilson Cup, but the holders carried the day by seven games to three. Under the pleasant conditions offering some excellent golf resulted. Haworth, top man for the home team, reeled off particularly good figures. In opposition to K. S. Glendinning, whose round was equal to a 75, Haworth required three 4’s for a 68. He failed, but was round in 70, nevertheless.

The detailed results are as under, the Manawatu members being mentioned first: —Glendinning lost to Haworth; Williams halved with Goss; Ingham halved with Hutchison; Hatch lost to Duncan ; C. G. Moore lost to Pharazyn; McCaskill beat Hussey; Rapley lost to Haggit; Lewis lost to Snunders; Seifert lost to Handley; Tizard lost to Hogben; Field beat Murchie.

Wanganui, 7 wins; Manawatu, 3 wins; two matches halved.

INTER-CLUB GAME. In conjunction with the W’ilson Cup game, an inter-ciub match was played, in which five further members participated. In the singles Manawatu added four wins to improve their aggregate, but lost ground in the fourball. The results of these matches were :

Singles.—Oram beat Cuthbertson ; E. R. Chapman heat Jackson; Speechley lost to Holroyd ; McKenzie beat Harvey; A. W. Chapman beat Hartland. Aggregate : Wanganui 8 wins, Manawatu 7 wins; two matches halved. Four-ball matches. —Glendinning and Williams beat Howarth and Hutchison ; Ingham and Hatch lost to Goss and Hussey; Moore and McCaskill lost to Duncan and Pharazyn; Rapley and Lewis lost to Ashford and Haggit; Taylor and Trehey lost to Saunders and Handley; Tizard and Field beat Hogben and Murchie; Oram, and Seifert lost to Meldrum and Wilson; E. R. Chapman and Speechley beat Jackson and Holroyd; McKenzie and A. W. Chapman lost to Harvey and Hartland. Wanganui: 6 wins; Manawatu 3 wins.
