THE ALL BLACKS

CONFIDENT OF SUCCESS. IN OPENING MATCH. SPECULATION OVER FORWARDS. (L’nitcd Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) LONDON, Sept. 12. In the All Blacks’ match against Devon and Cornwall, Olliver will play at centre-three-quarter with Hart and Ball on the wings. The All Blacks are confident of victory at Devonport. The match is regarded as a curtain-raiser to the season, in which the Ail Blacks are unlikely to be extended. The newspapers consider the team very strong. Mr V. It. Meredith, the manager, declined to say how the forwards would pack. The News-Chronieie considei-s that whatever plan the All Blacks adopt it will be formidable. The visitors should be supreme at least in the lineouts. The New Zealanders practised strenuously on the velvety turf at Paignton. Oliver played with bare feet and showed a rare turn of speed. Some of the critics are not impressed with the forwards. They declare that some attempts at wheeling missed fundamental principles. Newspapers expect the All Blacks to play on traditional lines. The team is expected to keep the ball moving with slump hand-to-liand passing and to be capable of sudden bursts of extra pace and to run straight. The West Country people have taken the team to their hearts. Practices have been largely attended.
