J. G. Coates, Minister of Finance, at tho annual “Association Day” smoke concert of the Wellington Commercial Travellers’ and Warehousemen’s Association. The comparison was between tlic years 1931-32 and 1933-34, except that the building permits were for 1932-33 and 1935-35, tlie share prices for 1932 and 1934 and the Post Office Savings Bank returns up to the end of these years. “These figures indicate a pretty clear improvement in trade,” said Mr Coates, “and the latest figures also suggest that the value of manufactured goods for 1934-35 is likely to be 10 to 15 per cent higher than for the previous year, while there are strong hopes that prices for exports will be higher during the forthcoming season.”
