PHOTOGRAPHIC COMPETITION

TO ASSIST PLUNKIiT SOCIETY’. NOVEL VOTING SYSTEM. A lively interest lias been taken recently in exhibitions of photographs of beautiful Plunkct babies m Auckland, Hamilton, and Wanganui, and tho local Plunkct Society arc arranging a similar exhibition here, towards tho end of next month. A spirit of competition is created by the recording of votes by visitors, a prize being offered to the winner in each class. Briefly, tho competition is open only' to children who have at some tune been under the supervision of a Plunkct nurse. There are six classes, five being for photographs of children of varying ages up to five years, while the sixth Class which should occasion special interest, is for photographs of twins under tlie age of six. . , . . An important point, and one winch the society desires to make absolutely clear, is that these ages specified refer to the ages of tlie children at the time the photograph was taken. As long as a child is not now more than fourteen, earlier photographs are eligible for tho exhibition. For instance, in tire ease, say, of a girl who is now twelve years old, the paionts could enter several photographs of her rf they so desire, taken at various ages before she reached the ago of six A system of penny votes will be in operation, and it is hoped that this will result in considerable financial assistance for the Palmerston North Plunkct Society, which is an institution worthy of support. Similar exhibitions in Wanganui and Auckland resulted in sums exceeding £2OO and £4OO being raised, and it is hoped that the local effort will evoke quite as much public interest and will be equally successful. Entries close on October 12, so that there is only a short month to go, and parents who contemplate entering their children are urged not to waste any time in selecting tho photographs they wish to exhibit. Entry forms arid full conditions of entry can bo had from the Plunkct rooms, King Street, or from Messrs _ Collinson and Cutiniiighanie’s enquiry office.
