HOCKEY.

SEALED HANDICAP MATCHES. The Manawatu Hockey Association’s mid-week competitions were continued in cold weather yesterday afternoon, matches being played in the sealed handicap. llroadway B met Combined Services in the senior division on the Takaro ground, but were beaten by 5 goals to nil, good saves by their goalkeeper preventing a much higher score from being registered against them. R. Hoare and D. Hoare goaled for Services in the first spell, and when play was resumed M. V.> Smith followed in fast to beat the goalie after the latter had already stopped one hot shot. AV. Pliilps subsequently netted twice from rushes in the circle. Messrs L. Martin and P. AVilton were the umpires. Phoenix won by default from Massey College. i P.D.C. beat Broadway A at Hokowhitu in a very, even game. C. Ward netted three times for the winners and AV Sutton twice for Broadway A. Messrs AV. H. AVilson and D. Hogan were the umpires. In the junior competition, Combined Services accounted for Phoenix by 13 goals to nil, the latter team taking the field with only six players. Scorers for Services were McDonald (9), F. Mitchell (2) and Tilson (2). Messrs R. Blackbourn and AV. Inkpen were the umpires. Massey College beat Broadway by 9 goals to 1 in a game played at Massey College.
