LAND DRAINAGE.
MAKERUA BOARD. The monthly meeting of the Makerua Drainage Board was held to-day. Those present were Messrs W. JackSon (acting-chairman), G. Larsen, W. J. Ross, T. D. Lynch, J. D. Aitchison, and E. E. Mabin. The report of the overseer (Mr 1 . V. Tucker) was as iollows : —Since the last flood the floodgate on Seifert’s Drain has been opened up and the lower end of the drain cleaned. The outlet of Ross’s Drain has also been scoured out. The draining of the dredge channel along the river stopbank is being carried out where necessary. Two men are engaged planting willows below Page’s Point, and other men will be planting at Hansen’s in a day or so. Sufficient trees have been felled to complete the protection at Coley’s bend and horses for hauling will he available next week. Some protection will be necessary at Lower Whitanui near the stock yards, and for this work some of the macrocarpa trees could he taken from the plantation on (lie job. The store-shed on the section in Shannon has been built.
