WATER OVERFLOWS.

FROM BOURKE’S DRAIN. Although the Manawatu River gauge at noon to-day registered only Bft. 9m. and had dropped to Bft. 6in. by 1 o’clock, settlers in the Taonui basin area reported that their properties were in danger of flooding from Bourke’s drain. Messrs Harrison and Lett stated that their property was m one place being flooded by water flowing over the banks to a depth of Ift. This low-lying land, it was stated, bore the brunt of the water being backed up, and the owners expressed regret that a repetition of previous inundations had occurred.
