MANAWATU v. MASTERTON
Twenty-one players from tho Masterton Ladies’ Golf Club played an inter-club match with a Manawatu Ladies’ Golf Club team on Monday at the Hokowhitu links, the Manawatu team winning l>y. 11 games to 0, with 4 halved.

Seifert halved with Mrs Guv Wiilliams; Miss M. Guy heat Mrs Steel; Mrs C. M. Kebbell bear Mrs Birch, Mrs A. E. Ekstedt lost to Mrs Horner; Miss M. Sim halved with Mrs Prior; Mrs L. Speechlev beat Miss Murray; Mrs D. Stewart lost to Mrs Feast; Mrs P. G. Tiznrd halved with Miss Cruickshank; Mrs L. Cooper lost to Mrs Drew; Mrs J. C. Young lost to Mr., Sherrat; Mrs W. J. Allen beat Miss Jury; Mrs E. Anstis beat Mrs Balfour; Miss K. Garner beat Miss Oates; Mrs E. Gowing beat Miss Lord; Miss McFarlane beat Miss Payton; Mrs H. E. Edmunds beat Miss P. James; Mrs L. J. Oliver lost to Mrs Mcßae; Mrs J. A. Colquboun heat Mrs Perry; Miss N. Nash lost to Miss Coom. A bogey competition was to have been played yesterday, but bad to bo postponed because of the wet weather. It will be played to-morrow, and anyone unable to lilay is requested to ring Mrs L. Speechley, ’phone 7026, before 11 a.m. WOMEN’S INSTITUTES. TE KAWAU GROUP. The recently-formed Te Kawau group of Women’s Institutes held its first meeting at Rangiotu last week. It was the largest gathering of women ever held in the district, totalling considerably over 100, there being members present from each of the seven institutes comprising the group, namely, Glen Oroua, Kopane, Carnarvon. Oroua Downs, Taikorea, Rongotea and Rangiotu. Mrs Wilson Scott (group chairwoman) presided and associated with her on the platform were Mrs Will (group convener). Mrs Beard (president Rangiotu Women’s Institute) and Mesdames Drew (Saiulon), Easton (Foxton) and Marumaru (Bulls), federation executive members. The guests of honour were presented with shoulder sprays of spring flowers. The hall had been very tastefully
decorated, the stage being particularly pleasing with bowls of wattle and spring flowers in shades of yellow and gold, whilst the institute emblem, carried out in colours, made an appropriate background. Mrs Beard, president of the hostess institute, extended a warm welcome to all members and friends, expressing the hope that they would spend a pleasant afternoon and carry away happy memories of the first meeting of the group. Mrs Scott apologised for the absence of Miss Grant, federation president, and Miss Freda bhaw, of Wellington. who was to have given a demonstration of physical culture. An excellent programme of musical and other items had been arranged, each institute in the group providing an item, as follows Songs, by Airs Sanson (Glen Oroua), Miss Berkahn (Bangiotu) ; elocutionary items Mrs Marumaru (Bulls) ; dance duo leddy and Lexie Ol liver . (Oroua Downs); selections on the steel guitar, Miss Smith (Taikrrea), and the concertina by Mrs Dafter (Rongotea). Accompaniments were played by Mrs Stanbra Mrs Olliver and Mrs W. Scott. During tbe afternoon, Mr W estbury, of Lower Hi)tt, gave a very interesting and instructive talk on gardening and was accorded a very hearty vote of thanks. A pleasant interlude was the serving of afternoon tea and the opportunity was given for social intercourse Oil resuming the institute song '“Comrades .and Friends” was sung and the prizes were presented to of the competitions. The meeting resolved that the next group meeting be liehl at Glen Oroua early in March and that the competition’s be for a sultana loaf and the best worked nightgown, materials not to cost more than 10s. Mrs Beard was elected group chairwoman for the ensuing term. The sponge sandwich competition resulted : Mrs V. Bird (Oroua Downs) 1, Mrs Thompson (Oroua Downs) 2, Mesdames Baker (Bangiotu) •„,d Hamlin (Glen Oroua), equal, 3. Mrs Drew acted as judge. The competition for a princess slip, cost not to exceed ss, was a popular one there b e i n ,r a large number of entries, all of •T very high standard. The judges. Mrs Grace and Miss V. Scott, had a difficult task and then- pacings were: Miss Aggctt (Carnarvon) 1, Mrs White ?Kopa.,f) 2, Mrs Bird (Oroua Downs) 3 Mrs Parlane (Glen Oroua) 4. A special prize, donated by the judges, was awarded to Mrs Lawlor (Glen Oroua) for an outstanding piece of work, the judges were presented with pretty posies of violets and freesias. Votes of thanks to the chairwoman, the convener, the judges, the performers and the hostess institute were carried and an enjoyable meeting concluded with the National Anthem.
