CARNARVON.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) CARNARVON, Sept. 9. On Saturday a gift evening was held in tho hall in honour of Miss Margaret Shaw, whoso marriage takes place shortly. A large number were present, including visitors from Sandon, Ohakca and Rongotea. The time was passed in playing cards and dancing. Those- winning the most games at cards were Mr Knox and Mrs W. Frccklington, and the consolation awards went to Bliss IC. Maxwell and Mr Toft. Music for the dance was supplied by Mr O. Sansoni and his band, while extras were contributed by Miss Butler, of Sandon, Mr Ray Pore and Mr IT. McKinnon. A Monte Carlo dance was won by Mrs Quinlan and Mr A. Burton. An item by Mr Hcffcrnan, “A Student’s Studies,” was well received, and lie had tc repeat his performance. After supper had been served, Mr Hcffcrnan asked Bliss Shaw to accept the presents from the residents, and expressed their best wishes for her future happiness. Miss Shaw, who was accorded musical honours, briefly replied.
