THE ALL BLACKS

FUNCTIONS IN LONDON. SPIRIT OF THE GAME. LORD BLEDISLOE’S TRIBUTE. (United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) Received September 5, 9.50 a.m. LONDON, Sept 4. Air Greenwood, the president of the Rugby Union, welcoming the All Blacks at a Sportsmen’s Club luncheon at the Savoy, declared that the union regarded it as a sacred trust to preserve the game for those, able to play only on Saturday afternoons. It did not cater for the leisured classes and did not allow anyone to make a profit from games. Lord Bledisloc declared that no country was so permeated with the spirit of true sportsmanship as New Zealand. The Trocadero Restaurant resembled the Twickenham football ground at a dinner to the All Blacks. 'The tourists passed through turnstiles to reach the tables, which were constructed to resemble grandstands overlooking imitation grass. The menus were in the shape of ltugby footballs and the waiters wore the colours of England and the All Blacks.
