REGULATION OF WHALING.
NEW ZEALAND’S PART. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Sept. 4. The regulation of whaling as agreed upon by the representatives of many nations at Geneva ou September 24, 1931, will be the subject of confirmatory legislation in the New Zealand Parliament, this session. This Dominion comes largely into the internanational convention because of its responsibility for the administration of the Ross Dependency and its waters, where whaling is extensively carried out.
The Minister of Marine (Hon. J. G. Cobbe) said to-day that the legislation was now before the Government preparatory to its submission to Parliament to carry out New Zealand’s part of the convention. The season for pelagic whaling south of 40 degrees south latitude had, for the coming season, been restricted to the period from December 1, 1935, to March 15, 1936.
