Sari Francisco’s groat Chinatown, tlio largest in America, is the scene of “Chinatown Squad,” the Universal mystery drama which comes to the Ivosy Iheat.ro tout the Kosy Theatre to-night Lyle Talbot, Valerie Hobson, Hugo O Concll and Andy Devine head the cast of this thrilling screen-play, and the picture itself was actually finned for tlie most part in the exact locale of the story. Several weeks were spent in San Francisco, and the company literally took possession of the Chinese qiifirtci. Jhe distrial's most ornate cafe formed t.ho setting for much of the action, and other scenes were filmed in the quarters busy streets and byways, as well as in the famous Chinatown telephone exchange, where calls in many dialects arc handled by the Chinese operators. The story concerns the murder of an agent for a revolutionary government in China, caught stealing funds which ho has collected from Americanised Chinese, and false clues lead the police over a tortuous trail until the killer is finally apprehended through the efforts of the driver of a sightseeing bus, bringing to a climax his romance with a beautiful girl This absorbing film drama was directed by Murray Roth from an original story by L. G. Bloclnnan, with the screenplay by Dore Schary and Ben Ryan. The picture presents a highly intimate picture of tho Chinatown which is little known even to residents of San Francisco itself. "MR WHAT’S HIS NAME.” Sir Seymour Hicks, who is both an actor and writer, married Ellalino Tcrriss, the actress, when he first started on tlie road to fame. He presented his first play in 1905, entitled “Blue Ball of Fairyland,” and later appeared in a play called “Beauty of Bath.” Later, Sir Seymour wrote tho scenario, produced and acted in the film “Glamour.” In 1934 .ho signed up with B I.P. to star in the film, “The Secret of tho Loch.” “Mr What’s His Name” is Sir Seymour’s first picture for Warner Bros.’ Teddington studios, and also the first time lie has appeared on tho screen since iic was knighted in May, 1935. In “Mr What’s His Name,” which is also at the Kosv Theatre to-night, Sir Seymour plays the part of a millionaire sauce manufacturer. Ho meets with a train accident, loses his memory, and forgets ho is married, his name, and all about his past life.
