DOMINION CHAMPIONSHIPS. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Sept. 4. With record entries and players from as far south as Invercargill, the New Zealand Badminton championship tournament opened to-night. A feature of the play was the defeat of H. Fow, Auckland and New Zealand title-holder, by Anderson (Auckland). Results of A grade matches are as follow (all Auckland players except where mentioned) : • —•
Men’s singles.—First round: J. Neale beat Dixon (Wellington), 5—15, 1.5—9, 15—3; M. T. Wilson beat Dr. Spencer, 15 —7, 15—5. Second round : Anderson beat H. Fow (Hamilton), 9—15, 15-5, 18—5; It. Hull beat Strang (Invercargill), 15 —3, 15 —9; Whitelaw beat Shale, 15 —12, 15 —10; I. Ellett beat A. Weir, 10 —15, 15 —11, 15—5.
Women’s singles.—First round : airs P. Wren beat Miss Mary AVade, 11 — 6, 11—0. Men’s doubles.—First round : Anderson and Southon beat Lewis and Margison, 15—12, 15 —12; Ileid and Ridyard (Wellington) beat Dallemore and Speed, 15 —9, 15 —8. Women’s doubles.—First round : Misses J. Ramsay and M. AVade beat Mrs Salisbury (Invercargill) and Miss K. Waters (Auckland), 18 —15, 15 —5.
