The exceptional spell of fine weather experienced last summer made conditions very pleasant for cricket in the Manawatu district.

“The high code of sportsmanship attendant to the Old Boys Cricket Club was fully in evidence, and although we were not successful in competition honours we extend our congratulations to the Palmerston North Club on winning the senior competition, the Combined Services Cfub on winning the junior A competition, and High School on their victory in tiie junior B competition. We i congratulate the Y.M.C.A. and City Council Clubs on their in their first season in senior cricket, the report adds. “The club was represented in each grade. The junior B team known as the “Bankers,” had quite a good season, finishing third in the competition. Congratulations are due to N. Gallichan, who was again selected in the Country team and for his fine performances in Hawke Clip games. During the early part of the season the club was unfortunate to lose J. Diedrich, who retired from the game. His performances both in club and representative games have at all times been ot a high standard, and his loss was a serious one to our first eleven. “In the senior team the leading batting averages were; —N. All members of the team showed considerable improvement and look forward to the coming season with confidence. We congratulate Mr F. Guinness on ms highly efficient management of this team.

“The club’s finances are in a very satisfactory condition and this will assist the club greatly for the coming season. The raffle proved quite successful. The club expended a ■ large proportion of its income in the purchase of new material and the New Zealand bats that were used for the first time as an experiment proved to be an unqualified success. The stocks of materials now on hand are in good order and there will be no large expense necessary in this connection (luring the coming season. During the off season the committee met twice and as a result several recommendations will be placed before the members at the annual meeting. We are looking forward to receiving the co-opera-tion of all old boys of the local High School, for it is only in this way that the strength of the club can he developed. Our thanks are again due to those ladies who kindly' assisted with the afternoon tea arrangements, and tlie committee desires to place upon record the appreciation of those services.”
