BATTING FIGURES IMPROVE. HAMMOND COMPILES 252. SERIES NEAR CONCLUSION. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) Received August 31, 10.0 a.m. LONDON, Aug. 30. Improved hatting performances characterised the county cricket matches, which are now nearing completion, although there were several bowling successes. Hammond, Gloucester’s prolific "rungetter, scored 252 against Leicester and ttinfield, the slow-medium bowler, took four Leicester wickets for 17 runs. Hondren continued to display excellent form, compiling 117, not out, for Middlesex against Suricy. Gunn, the left-hand all-rounder of Notts, compiled a useful 147 against Essex. Details arc as follow:
Middlesex v. Surrey.—Middlesex : First innings, 307 (Hcndron, not out, 117) ; second innings, 8 for 169, declared (Biuwn 5 for 49). Surrey: First innings, 120 (Sims 5 for 42) ; second innings, 6 for 141 (Sims 4 for 55). Middlesex won on the first innings. , Sussex v. Yorkshire. Sussex: First innings, 274 (Smailes 7 for 47); . second innings, 121 (Bowes 4 for 49). Yorkshire: First innings, 220 (James Langridge 4 for 36); second innings, l for 28. Sussex won on the first innings. Gloucester v. Leicester.—Gloucester: First innings, 7 for 459, declared (Hammond 1152). Leicester: First innings, 74 (Goddard 5 for 36). Leicester followed on for 125 (Sinficld 4 for 17). Gloucester won by an innings and 260 runs.
■ Derby v. Somerset.—Derby : First innings, 163 (Wellard 4 for 41); second Innings, 102 (White 8 for 36). Somerset: First innings, 123 (Mitchell 5 for 58) ; second innings, 101. Derby won by 41 runs.
Notts v. Essex.—Notts: First innings, 291 (Read 4 for 84) ; second innings, 6 for 275, declared (Gunn, not out, 147). Essex: First innings, 245 (Voce 4 for 59) ; second innings, 2 lor 108. Notts won on the first innings.
