MAGISTRATE’S COURT

TWO CASES HEARD. Air J. L. Stout, S.AL, presided over a sitting of the Alagistrate’s Court at Palmerston North yesterday. Alark Janies Williams, labourer, aged 31, of Whakatu, was charged with being an idle and disorderly person, with insufficient lawful visible means of support. He pleaded guilty. Detective Barling stated that accused and a woman companion and two others had gone to Wellington in a motor car and stayed at an hotel under assumed names, absconding without paying board. They had been sleeping out in the car. It was an offence which was becoming very prevalent and was difficult to trace. Commenting that accused had one previous conviction, the Alagistrate sentenced him to a month’s imprisonment. Alyrtle Ada Alaria Christensen, domestic, aged 24, was charged with being deemed to be a rogue and vagabond with insufficient lawful visible means of support, having previously been convicted as an idle and disorderly person. She pleaded guilty. Detective Barling stated that this was the woman companion who was with the previous accused, the circumstances being the same as in that case/ She had appeared three times previously on charges of being idle and disorderly. The Alagistrate said accused had hfid two or three lessons, but they did not seem to have had any effect. He sentenced her to two months’ imprisonment.
