AUCKLAND PROPOSAL,

AUCKLAND, Aug. 30. AVith the decision to raise a £200,000 loan for housing made last night by the City Council, it is proposed, if the loan is sanctioned, to erect 125 fiats and 125 semi-detached houses on sites which are not yet disclosed. The city engineer, in a comprehensive report, recommended the selection of sites suitable for cottage estates, and submitted details of the proposed areas with estimated costs per house, varying from £747 to £837. The council has now endorsed loan schemes totalling £694,000, including £282,000 for streets, £60,000 for drainage, £50,000 for waterworks, and £50,000 for a municipal block.
