11 URAL RAKINGS. A settlor of the Wairarapa told a Greytown Standard representative that it took him fifteen years of continuous cultivation to completely eradicato the gorse from his property. Poverty Bay agents arc said to have scoured the Wairarapa last week for ewe hoggets, which are in keen demand just now. The dairy farmers of the Wairarapa arc receiving 4s per head for first grude bobby calves this season, and appear to bn quite satisfied with themselves, says an exchange. Farm lands on Hauraki Plains is exceptionally wet at the present time, and conditions on dairy farms are very unpleasant, reports a correspondent. Settlers of 27 yeans’ standing cannot recall a wetter winter. On some farms Ihe legs of cows are so coated with mud that from a distance it appears that they are wearing gum boots. Triplet calves were born to a 14-year-old Shorthorn Jersey cow on the farm of Mr A. Duncan, Ilikutaia, Auckland Province, last week. When discovered a big strong animal was alive, but the two others, which were smaller, had died.
Notice that it has taken over complete control of the export of fruit from the Dominion as from August 1 has boon given by the Now Zealand Fruit Export Control Board. It is stated officially that the step taken by the board involves no practical change in its operations. In the past the bonrd has exorcised partial control only, but, in practice, all exports have been made through' the board for about eight years. The formal step now taken is designed to promote a better working basis. The order covers all markets for New Zealand fruit.
