OROUA DOWNS
(From Our Own Correspondent.) OROUA DOWNS, Aug. 27. Tho Women's Instituto hold a euchre and dance in aid of tho hall fund, on Friday night, but owing to many cold 3 and influenza being prevalent throughout the district tho gathering was not as well attended as usual. The evening's play was won by Mrs 11. Shailcr in the ladies’ section, while Mrs W. Gordon carried off tho second prize from Mrs Williams and Mrs Alhrey, Mrs V. Bird won the consolation prize. In the men’s section Mr J. Hchir was first, while Mr J. A. Conlan won second prize and Mr 11. Shailcr tho consolation. Tho ladies of tho instituto served supper, after which dancing was carried on until midnight. A competition was won by Miss Lola Shailcr. The weekly practice shoot was held on Monday evening, when tho following scores were recorded: W. Spicer, 67 —69 — 136; C. Chrislonsen, 67 —68—135; ('. Conlan, 68—66—134: M. Mills, J. Hchir, A. Marcbant, 63—67—130; F. Shailcr. 63 —63 — 1 126; R. Chrystall, 65-60—125; E. Veale, 62---62-124. Tho friends of Mr F. Moffat, who is at present an inmate of a private hospital in Palmerston North, will be pleased to learn that, he is making very steady progress ■ towards recovery. The friends of Mr 11. Proctor, who is also an inmate of a hos- . pital in Palmerston North, will ho pleased to learn that ho is making good progress.
