EROSION DANGER
PROPERTY AT AWAPUNI.
MEASURES FOR PROTECTION,
"‘Unless some steps are taken very shortly we will have another Hamilton’s bend there; considerable erosion occurred during the last flood,” commented Mr F. J. Ryder at the meeting of the Palmerston North Hospital Hoard, yesterday afternoon, when the protection of the board’s property at Awapuni from encroachment by the Manawatu River was being discussed. The farm committee reported that it had discussed the matter with the Palmerston North City Council representatives (the septic tanks arc situated in this locality), and the Palmerston North River Board. It recommended:
0) That the board take steps through its solicitors to ascertain if it is possible for the area controlled by the Hiver Board to be extended and, further, if there is any local body at present in any way responsible for river control in the locality.
i‘2) That m the opinion of the committee steps should bo taken at an early date to do protection work where erosion is now taking place and, in this connection, that Mr E. Fisher, the engineer of the River Board, be asked to submit a scheme for protection work with an estimate of the cost.
These proposals were adopted, the chairman (Mr J. K. Hornblow) commenting that he did not anticipate another flood in the meantime.
