HORSE BEATS CYCLIST.
EVENT AT ADDINGTON. ■ Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Aug. 25. In a challenge match of one mile at the Addington trotting ground on Saturday, Mr J. R. McKenzie’s horse, Taxpayer, beat H. G. Watson, the champion cyclist. From a flying start Taxpayer took the lead passing the stands', where Watson tucked in behind Taxpayer and trailed him until the straight was reached. There was a great tussle over the last furlong, Taxpayer beating the cyclist by a
head. . r , Sectional times were:—l wo furlongs, 34scc; half mile, 1.9 2-5; six furlongs, 1.46 1-5; and full distance, 2.17 1-5. Jn a walking race of one mile, F. W. Dukes (Canterbury champion) easily beat the trotter, Fairyland, in 10.17.
