WELLINGTON FESTIVAL.
Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Aug. 25. The experience of the opening day of the Wellington Competition Society’s 18th festival indicates that it is likely to he the most successful in the society’s history. The entries total the record number of 3700. A new system of spreading over a number of nights the more interesting sections makes for exceptionally varied programmes.
Miss Freda Whittaker, of Palmers- 1 ton North, secured first place among | 16 entrants for the ladies’ recital . (humorous) with musical accompaniment. ' I
