RAILWAY REVENUE
LOSS IN JULY PERIOD. FIRST SINCE OCTOBER. WELLINGTON, Aug. 24. A decrease of £12,917 in net revenue for the four-weekly period ended July 20, compared with the corresponding period of last year, is shown ponding period of last year, is hown by the railway working account, an abstract of which has been gazetted. A loss of £063 compares with a working profit of £12,254. For the equivalent period of 1933, there was a surplus of revenue of £20,034. The latest return shows the first working loss to be recorded since the return to October 13 last year. No four-wekly period in 1933 or 1932 produced a loss on working. The gross revenue for the period covered was £439,408, which was £14,503 more than a year ago. Expenses were increased by £27,420 to £440,071.
The operating account for the North Island shows a revenue of £229,469, an increase of £13,996 and expenses totalling £238.016, an increase of £19,460. There was a loss of £8547, compared with a loss of £3083 last year. Tho receipts of the South Island railways were £155,744, an increase of £293, and expenses were £171,457, an increase of £6959. There was a working loss of £15,713, compared with £9047.
The balance of miscellaneous revenue was £23,597. compared with £24.384 in 1934. The revenue was £54,195, and the expenditure £30,598. For the period from April 1 to July 20, the net revenue was £263,675, compared with £275,363 last year. The gross revenue was £1.990,171, an increase of £73,622. The expenditure was £1,726,496. an increase of £85,310.
