APPRECIATION VOICED.
SCHOOL COMMITTEES’ WORK. “In my visits to the schools I have been impressed, and particularly so at Palmerston North, with the vast amount of work that is being carried out freely and ungrudgingly on behalf of the children—the future citizens of the Dominion,” stated the chairman of the Wanganui Education Board (Mr E! F. Hemingway) in an address at Palmerston North to the Manawatu-Oroua School Committees’ Association. “People, foreigners especially, often asked why it was that Britain was so successful as a colonising nation,” he continued. ’The answer was to be found in the lives of men, members of the committees, who were willing to give their time and talents for their country’s good. He could not speak too highly of the work carried out by the committees. Mr Hemingway thanked those present on behalf of the board for the splendid work they were doing for the children of the board’s district. In helping to turn out good citizens they were doing a national work, the value of which could not be over-esti-mated. They did not look for any reward, he knew, hut they could rest assured that their labours were warmly appreciated by the hoard.
