Not many people know that a bright new golden sovereign contains exactly 5 pennyweight 3 grains of 22 carat gold; that is correct—ask any banker. What is it worth? Never less than twenty shillings. In times like the present, considerably more than twenty shillings. Now, if the average person were offered, say 5 dwt. 3 grains of 22 carat gold LOOSE, of nondescript origin, would that person part with a golden sovereign in exchange? We don’t think so.
