Mr and Mrs Aider sky, of Longburn, are spending a holiday with friends in Christchurch. Mrs Walker, of Dunedin, is spending a holiday with Mr and Mrs Hart, Tiritea. Mrs W. Smith and Airs L. Sutherland, of Inglewood, have been visiting Palmerston North. Miss Ci. Gilliard, who has been staying with Mr and Airs It. D. Haselden, Tiritea, has returned to her homo in Waipukurau. The engagement is announced of Lolo Alice Elizabeth, eldest daughter of Air and Airs J. Smith, of Ashhurst, to Isaac Huia, third son of Airs E. It. and the late Air I. C. Grammer, Ashhurst. Airs Aloffat Clow, of Belfast (Ireland), a well-known member of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union and the Leaguo of Nations Union, arrived in Palmerston North this morning from the North. She will be the guest of Air and Airs J. C. Young, North Street, during her stay of several days at this centre. GOLF. AIANAWATU CLUB. Luke was the successful competitor. PALAIERSTON NORTH CLUB. The Palmerston North Ladies’ Golf Club engaged in a points competition at Te Alatai yesterday, with the following results:—Airs Free, 105 —29 76; Airs Bennett, 105—28—81; Mrs Bott, 101—18—83; Aliss Tennant, 116 —32—84. Juniors, over 9 holes. — Airs Hume, 38, Airs Griffiths 40, Airs Day 42, Airs August 43. COAIING-OF-AGE PARTY. A happy atmosphere was the keynote of a function held last Alonday night in All Saints’ Hall, the occasion being the coming-of-agc of Edna, daughter of Mr and Airs A. Drvden, South Street. Air and Airs Drvden received their guests, the hostess wearing a charming frock of saxe blue blistered satin, while the guest of honour was becomingly allired. in pink satin. The room was prettily decorated with streamers, aided by spring bulbs, giving a gay effect to the surroundings. Competitions, games, and dancing kept the party of guests in a constant state of enjoyment. Items were rendered bv Alaster Jack Drvden, Aliss N. Sutherland, Air IT. AVilson, Air S. W. Oliver, and a sketch by Air and Airs H. W. Rowse, while an instrumental trio gave much appreciated selections. Air F. Caple played for the dancing whilst an extra was played by Aliss Pye. Air J. Penketh made an efficient At-C. After a delightful supper had ffieen partaken" of, Air H. Thomas, in a happy speech, proposed the health of Aliss Drvden, wishing her the best of good fortune and happiness in the years to come, and presented her with a golden key. Air Drvden suitably replied on behalf of his daughter, and subsequently announced her engagement to Air Rex Beatson. The host and hostess were then accorded a toast and musical honours. A feature of the evening was the beautiful iced cake, the work of Alesdames Dryden and Aforris. Among those present were Airs Bradford (New Plymouth) and Airs W. Pettingell (Wellington). SOCIAL FUNCTIONS. An enjoyable party was given by Aliss Aloll.v Townsend, principal of the Atargaret Stock School of Dancing, for the pupils at the studio on Wednesday afternoon for the breaking-up of the winter term. Games, dances and competitions were enjoyed, the room being full of bright little faces. The tea-room was very prettily decorated in orange and yellow- and all present thoroughly enjoyed themselves till < o’clock. An enjovable partv was arranged at the home of Airs A. N. Beattie, Ngaio Street, last evening by the friends of Aliss Beattie to further her candidature as a queen in the Y.AI.C.A. queon carnival. Dancing and competitions occupied the evening, songs by Airs K. Jones providing further enjoyment. Alusic for the dancing was provided by Alisses E. Gallichan and A. Cowlishaw and Airs Jones. A competition was won by Aliss v . J-iplmg. Supper was served. GOLDEN WEDDING. AIR AND AIRS S. AVILLIAAISON. Mr and Airs Stephen Williamson celebrated their. golden wedding at “Waituna,” their home in Waituna West, on Saturday last, some forty relatives and intimate friends (among whom were Airs J. J. Williamson and her son, Mr Arthur Williamson, of Wellington), arriving to do them 11911our. Airs Williamson received her visitors wearing a model gown of black lace, the corsage ot which was finished with a large bow of go d lame, and carried a bouquet of gold floers presented to her by Airs J. H. /VVi hamson. Airs Luxford, who assisted her mother in receiving and entertaining tli© guests, wore a frock or burgundy lace and a coatee of black panne velvet with white fur collar. The house was decorated with flowers in golden shades and the floral adornment ot the supper room was carried out in similar colouring. 'J'ho beautiful three-tiored wedding cake which occupied pride of place was made by Airs Joseph Gibson of Kiwitea, and was tinted cream and ornamented with gold favours sent bv Airs H. C. Williamson, of Lower Hutt. The 50 gold candles which surmounted it were lit by the two sons of the host and hostess and extinguished bv their grandsons, John Luxford and Dalmaiii Williamson. Air C. B. C. Evans proposed the health of Mr and Airs Williamson, which was drunk with musical honours. Bridge, competitions, and music occupied the time very pleasantly, duets by Airs John At illiamson and her sister, Ethel Younger, and recitations by Alaster John Luxford giving much pleasure. In the course of the proceedings Airs Williamson played the “Wedding March and Air Alistcr Evans presided at the piano during a community sing and the rendering of “They Are Jolly Good Fellows” and “Auld Lang Syne.” Among the presents received was an attractive gold and navy coffee service from Mrs D. Latham, a London relative, and in addition to the numerous congratulatory telegrams sent Air and Mrs AVilliamson was a cablegram from J oliannesburg.
