PASTEURISED MILK

OFFICIAL DEFINITION. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Aug. 22. A new definition of pasteurised milk is contained in an Order-in-Counci 1 published in the New Zealand Gazette, to-night, which amends certain regulations under the Sale of Food ami Drugs Act, 1908. The order stipulates that pasteurised milk shall be milk which has been retained at a temperature of not less than 145 degrees Fahrenheit, and not more than 150 degrees, for at least thirty minutes and immediately cooled to 55 degrees and protected from recontamination. The milk shall not be so heated more than once and shall not be otherwise treated by heat. It shall not contain any living coliform bacillus in one-tentli of a cubic centimetre. The order also requires containers of pasteurised milk or cream to be labelled as such.
