FRIENDLY SOCIETIES

ACORN LODGE OF DRUIDS. The usiuil meeting of the Acorn Lodge took place at the Coronation Hall, Terrace End, on Friday. Arch Druid Bro. E. D. Tucker presided over a good attendance. Alatiy visitors were present and a vote of thanks was passed to them. Bro. Bedingfield reported upon attending F.S. Dispensary' Board. D.P. Bro. Drake, in making his -report, stated that though the lodge possessed a set of bowls and two mats there were so many enthusiastic players that.another set of howls were required and that the bowls committee recommended to the lodge that, as soon as the finances permitted, another set he purchased. A discussion took place on the ritual competition, and in view of the short time due to elapse before the competition it was decided tnat the officers of the lodge practise every night available before the next lodge meeting. Brothers were reminded of the meeting of tho R.A.C. An invitation was received tc the Oroua Lodge social to be held next lodge night; also from Lind Lodge to the quarter night meeting. Two candidates wore nominated for election. Appreciation was expressed by Bro. Drake of tho kindness shown to his wife; also by Bro Medway. As set down in the syllabus, travel talks were given -after the lodge closed; also games of bowls and cards were played. Bro. Bedingfield gave an interesting description of n train journey through the South Island, the beauty of the cities visited and tlio panorama of the south. Bro. Christensen told of the vicissitudes and humour of a travelling salesman. Bro. Gulliver gave a description of a journey from England to South Africa, through Capetown, the Grange Free State,’ and Transvaal" and Durban and back to England; also from England to New Zealand. Supper was served by the stewards
