PAHIATUA.

PAHIATUA, Aug. 20. Following the extremely boisterous weather of the past week, the road at Hinemoa is in a bad state. Yesterday the road was blocked to traffic through a fairly large slip in the Hineliioa Gorge being practically across the road, which is very narrow at ordinary times. Should the slip advance any further settlers higher up will be. completley cut off. A meeting of the Pahiatua Fire Brigade was held at the station last night, Superintendent AY. Lawry presiding. Two new honorary members were elected, Alessrs J. AlcCormiek and F. Dunham, and one new active member, Air B. Fowke. A challenge was received from AA'oodville for the loothall challenge, cup and it was decided to play AA'oodville at AYoodville on August 28. Arrangements were made to hold a demonstration between AA’oodville, Ekotahuna and Pahiatua to he held in Pahiatua on September 2b. Fireman T. O’Brien was presented with a two-year service bar, having completed nine years’ service. The regular meeting of the Young Farmers’ Club was held at Bn I lance last evening. Air C. AA'iltou presided. After ordinary business had been disposed of Air J. B. Tait, one of tlio early settlers of Ballance, delivered a most .interesting discourse on the pioneering days and early life of Ballance, punctuating his talk with many interesting anecdotes. The address will be concluded at the next meeting.
