AFRICANS COMPILE 572. DEFEAT OF SURREY. Received August 2, 9.10 a.m. LONDON, Aug. 1. Excellent batting by Mitchell (195) and Rowan (171) enabled the South African cricketers to beat Surrey by an innings and 205 runs. South Africa in the first innings compiled 572 runs in reply to Surrey’s 183. In their second innings the home side made 184. The South Africans scored 300 by boundaries. They piled up the highest score of the tour and produced the biggest, opening stand of the season. The Surrey innings was merely a procession of disconsolate batsmen. Details are as follow : SURREY.
