OBITUARY

AIR T. IWIKAU. The death occurred recently at his residence, Te Titanga Pa, Tokorangi, of Air Toro Iwikau, a member of a very well-known Alaori family. Air Iwikau was educated at the Pore wa School, near Alarton, and had lived all his life in the district. He was a past member of the Alarton, Feilding, AVangaiiui, and Foxton Racing Clubs, and also of the Alarton Junction Band. He was for some years an interpreter of the first degree and honorary secretary of the Ivurahaupo Alaori Council. A hockey enthusiast, he was a member of the Rangitikei Sub-Association, being a first-class referee. Last year he coached the Halcombe ladies’ hockey team, and under his tuition the team won practically every trophy of the association. He was a member of the Oroua branch of the Farmers’ Union and was also chairman of the Tokorangi School Committee for a number of years, exercising a great influence fo r tho moral good of the native children. Since his death large numbers of natives assembled at the meeting-house, where a tapgi was held. Alany hundreds attended the funeral, the service being conducted by Father Riordan, of Otaki. The pallbearers were Alessrs Aitken, Gracie, Mogridge, Coles, Death, Low, Hutton, and Wing. Numerous floral tributes were received, among them being those from all local sports clubs, the Tokorangi School Committee, and the school children. Among those present were Princess Te Puea Hernngi, of Waikato, and Air Hoani Te Heuheu, a ruling chief of the Taupo district. Air Iwikau, is survived by his wife, Tutunui Rora, and his three daughters, Nurse Rora Iwikau, of the fever hospital, Wellington; Airs Hare Reweti. of Bulls ; and Aliss Parewairere (Polly) Iwikau, of Tokorangi. Ho leaves three brothers and a sister, Airs George Goethe, of Tokorangi; Air Alnraennui Iwikau, of Tailiape, Air Te Heuheu Iwikau, of Taupo; and Air Hnpe Iwikau, of Tokorangi.
