INFANTILE PARALYSIS.
DISTINCTION BETWEEN SERA. Per Press Association. DUNEDIN, July 31. Referring to a Wellington doctor’s statement regarding the New York cable concerning the serum used for inoculation against infantile paralysis. Professor D’Ath said the doctor was evidently under a misapprehension as to the nature of the cabled report, which referred to tho method of inoculation in epidemic areas of those children not already affected. The serum mentioned, by the “Wellington doctor was a serum which had been used in New Zealand for many yean in the treatment of patients who had already developed the disease in order to prevent possible serious paralytic results.
The serum was available at the four base hospital laboratories, where it was prepared. The serum successfully tried in North Carolina was used for the inoculation of children who liac not contracted the disease. No supplies of this were yet available in New Zealand.
