CHICAGO GANGSTER.
A VIOLENT DEATH. CHICAGO, July IS. Louis (“Two Gun”) Altcrie. one of the -few surviving of flip prom incut, gangsters of the prohibition decade, was assassinated to-day by gunmen hiding in a building across the street from his home. Since the repeal of the dry laws Alterie had been active in the affairs of a powerful union of theatre janitors, and it is , assumed that rival gangsters killed him in an effort to gain control of the organisation. _ It was the daily custom of Mrs Alterie to drive her husband to his office, but to-dav she was delayed a few minutes in the foyer of the apartment building, where she heard a burst of gunfire. Hurrying to the street she found her husband’s crumpled body. He died before he reached hospital, twelve bullets having pierced the body. The police found that a room across the street had been occupied by two men for a fortnight, and they were apparently keeping watch for an opportune time to kill their victim. A Highpowered rifle and a score of discharged shells were found. Both men escaped.
