TENNIS VICTORY

TO AUSTRALIAN PAIR. GENERAL SUPERIORITY. A FROFITABLE TOUR. (United Press Association.—Bv Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) Received July 20, 9.5 a.in. LONDON, July 19. At tho Eastbourno tennis tournament, England v. Australia, in the doubles match Quist and Turnbull (Australia) heat Hughes and Tuckey (Britain), 3—o, 6—3, B—6, 6—4. Turnbull was tho best of the. four. Ho served and smashed with savage accuracy. Tho Australians were generally superior in volleying and smashing. Tuckcy, England’s new Davis Cup recruit, is playing much better with experience. Ho is serving powerfully and his ground strokes have improved. Mr Harry Hopman, writing in tho Sun on tennis subjects, says the Australians’ tour has been a financial success. The profits without the Eastbourne matches, where most of the seats have been sold, should approach £2OOO. Tho New Zealand tie yielded £IOO, the French £2500, and tho German £9OO. DEFEAT OF PERRY. COMMENT BY AUTHORITY. LONDON, July 19. Mr AYallis Myers, in the Daily Telegraph, writes: “Eastbourne form docs not mean that Perry will play the same at AA’imbledon, where previously he has produced centre court regenerations. Tho best Perry emerges on the right day. Nevertheless Crawford staged a game which even the best Perry would have difficulty in subduing. It was the Crawford of our dreams.”
