OPINIONS AT VARIANCE. MELBOURNE, July 1.8. There was a fierce discussion to-night at a conference of the Victorian Sqkldiers’ Association on a motion urging the immediate return of compulsory military training. " One section was violently hostile to the motion and talked of ‘Throwing in their badges” if the motion were passed. Opinion was almost equally divided. A serious dispute was averted by an amendment which agreed to referring the subject to sub-branches for discussion.
