CROSSING SMASH

CAR DRIVER'S ESCAPE. ' Per Press Association. WAIPUKUIIAU, Juiy 18. Struck by a train last evening at a level crossing on the main road- between Waipukurau and Waipawa, a car owned and driven by Air J. Goring Johnston of Taniunui, was hurled back across tlie road and crashed down a bank and through a fence. The driver had a miraculous escape, iccciving only shock and slight injuries. Air Goring Johnston is well known in Palmerston North, having formerly resided at Awapuni. He had just returned to Hawke’s Bay after spending a holiday at this centre.
