MEAT AGREEMENT
AUSTRALIA SATISFIED. , ASSURANCE OF OUTLOOK. EXPANDING TRADE. (United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) Received July 17, 8.50 a.m. SYDNEY, July 17. Tho acting-Prime Minister (Dr. Earle Page), commenting on Mr W. E. Elliott’s statement on meat, said: An essential factor of the new agreement is the recognition of Australia’s right to an epanding share of mutton and lamb imports. “Australia’s share next year will be 20 per cent, more than in the Ottawa Agreement for the year of 1392, in fact, assures us of an outlet for the whole of our lamb and mutton up to next year,” added Dr. Page. The agreement has been well received bv the meat industry, while the Commonwealth Government is pleased that, the agreement is on a yearly basis rather than quarterly, which is very difficult to work. Australia is now in a good strategic position for future discussions with England. CATTLE SUBSIDY VOTE. Received July 17, 12.40 p.m. LONDON, July 16. A supplementary vote provides £3,889,650 for tho Cattle Subsidy Fund, in accordance with Air W. E. Elliot’s scheme.
